Week 4 Reflection

It is so hard to believe that this internship is over. I can't believe how fast it went by. Overall I feel like I have learned a great deal about school psychology and the many different things that it requires. I am very grateful that I got a chance to work with all the great people at the school. The whole experience really provided me with a great insight into practicing psychology.

June 17- Last Day

Today we had some meetings as usual and I helped teach the fourth grade again. They also bought me a goodbye/birthday cake. I am so sad to leave!

June 16

Today we had an icecream part for the fifth grade enrichment groups and then had some behavior problems at the end of the day that we had to deal with. Other than that I help with any of the paperwork that I could.

June 15

More end of the year meetings today which lasted most of the day. After I helped with some paperwork and then more meetings.

June 14

Today I spent most of my time helping plan for a retirement part for one of the teachers. It was very fun and entertaining to say the least. I enjoyed it alot.

June 13

Alot of meetings today. Basically just sat through meeting all day. It was educational but very long.

Week Three Relfection

Today was another very interesting week, full of ups and downs and behavior problems that the school psychologist has to deal with. I am really enjoying my time learning about everything that has to be done and all the demands that are put on psychologists in school. I can't wait for the my last week and it will be very hard to leave!

June 10

Today there were some meeting with some of the childrens parents. Later I helped with some paper work and then we taught the sixth grade classes.

June 9

Today I helped with some classes and then we had an ice cream party for the enrichment groups. Everyone picked a famous person and researched them. They then came to the party as those people and had to act as the person who they studied. All the children did a really good job and it was a very fun time.

June 8

Today there was enrichement group meetings and I got to work with the children and play some games. Overall it was very fun.

June 7

Today was another day of meetings for the psychology department and parents of children that they are currently working with. It was very insightful to see all the details and extent of the work that is put into every single part of making sure each student who needs help gets the help that they need.

June 6

Today I continued to work with some children and helped with the teaching of some of the fourth grade classes. I also got to spend some time outside with one of gym classes.

Weeks two reflection

Overall, the week was very good. I learned a lot more about what it means to work in a school as a school psychologist as well as as a social worker. I enjoy the time I get to spend with the children in classes and on field day. I am enjoying all the time that I spend at the school and it is continueing to be a great experience that I am happy to be a part of.

June 3

I worked with the school social worker today and I got to meet with a few kids and talk to them with her. We also visited some other schools where she works as well. It was a very insightful day.

June 2

Today I got to work with some of the enrichement groups, which are children who are very intelligent for their age. It was very fun, we played a trivia game and it got extremely competitive between all the kids. I also got to observe some classes and help out when I was needed with them.

Today was field day at the school, so I spent most of my time outside. I managed some of the game stations and it was really fun to be outside with the kids and helping/explaining all the field day games.

May 31

Today was a slow day mostly just paperwork and things along those lines had to be done. Easy day to start the week and I can't wait to see what else is in store.

Week One Reflection

This whole week has been a great experience. It has really shown me all the hard work that goes into being a school psychologist. I have really enjoyed working with the children and learning many new things. It has been very fun and interesting to learn how psychologists work in schools and the amount of things they need to do for each of the children they help. I thought it was fascinating to learn about the ways IQ test are administered. I am really looking forward to what next week brings.

May 26, 2011

Today I got to observe some classes and work with the children it was a very interesting time. I got to see a few different classes and see the different dynamics between the students in each of the classes. I also got to observe some more psychological testing today which was very interesting.

May 25,2011

Today was an good day. I learned about some different psychological and placement tests (such as IQ test) that are given by the school for the children. I even watched one of the tests being administered and really got to see how all the little components work  and the different catagories that are focused on.

Day two: May 24, 2011

On my second day, I sat through many different meetings between the psychology department at the school. It was very enlightening to learn how everyone works together to help the students and their families. I thought it was very interesting to learn how they work to help each child with special needs.

internship first day May 23,2011

I am interning at Sheperds  Glen school in Hamden and have been working with the school psychologist. The first day was mostly comprised of learning my way around the school and meeting some children and the people that work at the school. Altogether it was a very eventful day and a very interesting insight into how the school system funcions.
